Does your child want to be a youth umpire for SMLLA this Spring?
Being a youth umpire is an important (and fun) opportunity. As a league, we rely on youth umpires to officiate games at ALL LEVELS. Furthermore, I believe being an umpire helps our kids learn the game, build sympathy for the umpires overseeing their games, and earn some extra money or get volunteer hours for school.
Now, let's talk about getting them ready to be umpires. Just like the game of baseball, kids are better umpires when they practice. On Saturday, February 21st from 2 pm - 3:15 pm at Trinta, we will host an umpire clinic. At the clinic, I will walk thru rules in both a "classroom" and on the field setting (assuming the fields are suitable). So, the kids will role play different scenarios as a way to better understand the rules and the mechanics of making the calls (where do you stand on the field, what are the proper hand gestures for making a call, etc).
We want all new and returning umpires to attend our UMPIRE CLINIC on Saturday Feb 21 at 2 pm - 3:15 pm at Trinta.
UMPIRE SHIRTS AND HATS
If your child already has a SMLLA umpire shirt and/or hat at home, please bring it to the umpire clinic. We will need to do an inventory check and store all shirts in the umpire closet for the Spring season.
SCHEDULE AND SIGN-UP
Once the league schedule is finalized, a google doc will be available to sign up for shifts.
